File_Smith is a Windows tool for renaming many files or folders at once. Pick a folder and an optional filter, then choose how the names should change. Every new name is shown next to the old one before anything is touched, and the last change can be undone.

Case - change the case of the name, the extension or both
Delete - remove a number of characters from a position
Insert - insert characters at a position
Replace - replace characters at a position, or the first occurrence of some text
Rename - renumber every file with a fixed prefix and a sequential suffix, keeping the extensions. The suffix keeps its own style as it counts, so after Az9 comes Ba0
Prune - remove a prefix or suffix common to all the names, or shorten extensions to 3 characters

File_Smith can also add itself to the right-click menu in Windows Explorer for files and folders.
