Website Checking Tools
Every time you make a change to the pages on your website, you should use some of these
resources to test them for errors, warnings and hints.
-
HTML Validator : Chrome extension that checks the HTML of the page you
are looking at for syntax and conformity. We run it and Validator Plus on every
page we change, so the HTML and CSS stay standards-compliant and error free.
-
Validator Plus : The companion extension for CSS. Between the two you
see every error and warning without leaving the browser.
-
Compression Test : Check how well the compression is working on your site.
-
ahrefs : Ahrefs Webmaster Tools are very comprehensive. You have to prove
it's your site, and it works for any number of sites. The free version excludes a
few features, but what you get is good enough. We find it invaluable for tracking
down errors in new pages, and it emails when something goes wrong with the server,
which has caught outages before we noticed them ourselves.
-
UITEST.COM : A suite of 80 tools to check your website.
-
nibbler : A comprehensive site check. It only does 5 pages fully for
free, but at least it's honest. Good for a quick overview of how a site may look
to Google Search Console before you dig into the detail.
-
ahrefs tools : There is a small collection of a few free tools. It's
worth a look.
-
FreeWebMonitoring : This a very nice, free site to monitor the availability
of your website.
-
seo.entireweb : You need an account, but its free and not hobbled.
-
Metatag Analyze : Fully free and gives you a good display of your meta tags.
-
Progressive Web Apps : Learn about Progressive Web Apps.
-
Dig : Google Admin Tooolbox Dig Domain Info.
-
DKIM Record Checker : Check the DKIM record for your domain and selector,
to confirm your email signing is set up correctly.
